Our Lady of Rosary Hospital was established in 1977 by Engr. Urbano S.A. Castillo and his wife, Irene Sunga-Castillo, to render quality health care to the people of Macabebe and the communities surrounding it. In honor of our Virgin Mother, it was named Holy Rosary Clinic. Dra. Zenaida S. Castillo, their eldest daughter and a pediatrician, started her parents’ mission. From a 5-bed capacity clinic, it was expanded to 10-bed capacity after two years and was then renamed Our Lady of Rosary Hospital.
Since then, the family has continuously served patients with care and compassion. Thus, the vision that the hospital “shall be the premier health care facility and center of excellence and quality health care of the town of Macabebe and its surrounding towns, committed to the health of its people, served by competent , compassionate and ethical health professionals, working as a team”.
The Hospital operates around the core values of: integrity, quality, teamwork, compassion, social responsibility and commitment.
Project Rationale:
Our Lady of Rosary Hospital was the first private hospital in Macabebe, Pampanga. Strategically located just beside the town hall an a few meters away from the Cathedral and town plaza, it is very accessible even to those coming from other communities
Macabebe is one of the oldest municipalities in Pampanga that made history as early as 1557. It is classified as 3rd class municipality with 25 barangays. Several rivers drain Macabebe to Manila Bay and Rio Grande which explains the predominantly rural communities where fishing and farming are the main sources of income. The municipality’s population in 2005 was the 68,339 50% of which are females and 50% males. Two independent municipalities used to be part of Macabebe- Masantol and Minalin which are classified as 2nd class municipalities and do not have hospitals.
There are more than 70,000 populations in Macabebe alone. Other hospitals that serve said population is the 25 bed capacity Macabebe District Hospital and the 10-bed Polintan Clinic. The nearest tertiary hospitals are in the City of San Fernando which is about one hour trip away namely: JB Lingad Hospital, Mother Theresa of Calcutta Hospital, Mt Carmel Hospital and Makabali Hospital.
Health is both a basic right among people but also self responsibility. Health care services have been elusive especially among the poor where government support cannot reach out to most people. The increasing population in the province brought by the fast urbanization affects greatly the health of people. It is in this view that this proposal seeks support to provide quality health care services to the people of Macabebe and those from the neighboring communities.
